Lake Garda or Benàco is the largest Italian lake with an area of about sq. km. 370 at an altitude of about 65 meters above sea level. The morainic and fluvioglacial rocks and deposits that emerge in the lake area were formed about 200 million years ago. The hilly territory, not flat, the type of soil and the mild climate of the lake's shores favoured the growth of arboreal plants such as: olive groves, orchards, citrus gardens and vineyards. It seems a paradox for the lake and the water, but fishing has always been a complementary activity with a marginal economic importance compared to agriculture, the fisherman's job has always remained a poor and precarious profession. It is interesting to walk along the Strada Gardesana dell'olio to discover enchanting landscapes and make pleasant stops at points of sale and refreshment.
